BP Asphalt Shingles
The most economical asphalt shingle product is BP Mystique 42, which lasts between 15 to 20 years. A functional upgrade is the premium BP Vanguard 42 IR shingles, which claims to last for over 25 years. In addition, the Vanguard roofing shingles meet the UL2218 Class 4 Impact Resistance* rating and offer the most excellent protection against hail storms.
*What is UL2218 Class 4 Impact Resistance?
UL2218 classification is a national standard for roof impact resistance by rating materials from Class 1 to Class 4, based on their resistance to the steel ball test. During the Class 4 rating test, the sample asphalt shingle did not crack when a steel ball 2” in diameter hit it twice in the same spot.
BP also offers designer shingles such as the Manoir. They cost less than the Vanguard 42 asphalt shingles and provide a distinctive slate look.

Roofing Underlayment
There are two types of shingle underlayment: water-resistant and waterproof. Shingle manufacturers usually develop their unique underlayment brands. Sometimes, the homeowners are required to select as per the manufacturer's recommendation to be qualified for having an extended shingle warranty.
Synthetic roofing underlayment is water-resistant, lightweight and claims superior resistance to tearing and wrinkling. BP has two synthetic brands: Deckgard and Suredeck. They both have the same roll dimensions (4 ft.X250 ft.) and coverage per roll. (1,000 square feet) However, Suredeck appears to have more gripping power and therefore safer for the workers to use.
Synthetic roofing underlayment was originally invented to keep the roof decking dry until new shingles are installed. It was also useful as a separation sheet between the roofing deck and the shingles, preventing the asphalt shingles to degrade prematurely.
Waterproofing underlayment is a long-lasting, self-sticking modified asphalt on a glass mat reinforcement. They are very heavy and often come with a top surface (sand or granules) as well. BP's brands are Gripgard and Weathertex. While they have the same dimensions (3 ft.X65 ft.) and coverage per roll (179 square feet), Weathertex has a superior sand finish for better gripping.
Waterproofing underlayment is designed to seal the roof and prevent water from getting inside a building due to ice dams and rains. We often install them on low-pitched roofing areas, along the eaves, in valleys, around the skylights and chimneys, etc.
