Rubber Shingles
Rubber Roofing & Skylight
This corner lot home had a 30-year old cedar shake roof and a pyramid-shaped skylight on the roof peak. Over time, nails and staples had become loose, especially along the roof ridges. The majority of the wood shakes showed signs of rotting and splitting, causing minor roof leaks.
Roofing Goal: install a durable roofing material that resembles a traditional slate roof.
Rubber Roof Replacement
The product selected was the Euroshield Heritage Slate. (Euroshield changed its name to Vermont Slate in 2020)
Heritage Slate weighs 6 lbs per square foot, similar to asphalt shingles, and is designed to replicate New England style slate roofing.
Heritage Slate panels come in carefully wrapped bundles, which can be stored outside as long as they lay flat. For the roofing underlayment, we used the GAF premium 48” Tiger Paw. They provide seven times the tear-strength compared to the #30 felt, and it is safer to walk on due to improved traction.
Skylight Replacement
The pyramid-shaped skylight is as old as the wood roof. We recommended replacing it with the roof.
